Documents captured while in persuit of Zarqawi reveal a puzzle piece that I've been missing: Why was Iran's President actively attempting to provoke a war with the US? I wasn't the only one who noticed and now we may know the answer. Zarqawi figured the way out of the mess the Islamists found themselves in in Iraq was to instigate a conflict with Iran and, perhaps, Iran tried to help out.
"Generally speaking and despite the gloomy present situation, we find that the best solution in order to get out of this crisis is to involve the U.S. forces in waging a war against another country or any hostile groups," the document said, as quoted by al-Maliki's office...."We mean specifically attempting to escalate the tension between America and Iran, and American and the Shiite in Iraq,"
Now besides the fact that Zarqawi was looking for help from a US-Iran war, I want you to note the use of the word "gloomy", as in "the gloomy present situation". Does this sound like an operation that is going well to you?
Now, this is a snapshot of Zarqawi's thoughts before he was killed. Subsequent to this he is dead. And not only is he dead, but his network is destroyed and things must seem even gloomier to those who remain.
And yet, it is at this time that Democrats choose to pick a fight in Congress about whether or not we should stay in Iraq.
The war was "a grotesque mistake," countered the Democratic leader, Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California. "The administration continues to dig a hole. They refuse to come up and see the light," she said....
"Stay and we'll pay," countered Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., who criticized "the failed policy of this administration" and lamented the lives lost, billions of dollars spent and the bruised U.S. image since the war started. "It's time to redeploy and be ready." he said.
So the Democrats plan is to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
Yeah, that should convince people yours is the party of strong defense.
Despite this, the House approved new funding for the war against terrorism in both Iraq and Afghanistan by a vote of 351 to 67. And the Senate approved it 98 to 1.
And although Sen Kerry was telling the people attending the “Take Back America” conference in Washinton DC this week that
“It is essential to acknowledge that the war itself was a mistake,” Kerry told some 2,000 liberals assembled for the “Take Back America” conference in Washington, D.C. “It was wrong and I was wrong to vote for that Iraq war resolution.”
Senator Kerry was not the one who voted against the appropriations bill for continuing the war he now says is a mistake.
Congress is necessary for continued prosecution of the war in Iraq. And while many speak out against it, few vote to call it off.
Why is that?
I think you know.
