Though being aggressive in the War on Terrorism is a good thing, you can not say that everything has gone perfectly nor can you say that there haven't been, um, gaps in the plan.
But that is where the American citizen comes in, to fill the gaps and plug the holes in order to help bring about a successful mission.
One of the gaps in the plan in Iraq has to do with equipping Iraqi Police.
Two years ago, Fresno Police Officer Mike Harris heard that Iraqi police officers were ill equipped to do their job which often is to hold the line between the ordinary citizen and the criminals and terrorists. Now he could have yelled and screamed that Bush was not doing his job, and that the Republicans were criminals mismanaging the war like many others do.
Instead, he decided to do something to fix the problem.
He founded Brotherhood of the Badge to recognize that Policemen the world over, comprise a brotherhood and will look out for each other. Harris' organization then joined forces with Operation Soldier and
Since 2004...has equipped 10,000 Iraqi security forces with used ballistic vests donated from law enforcement agencies across the country.
Now they are headed back to Iraq
this time with 24,000 pounds of gear, like helmets, radios, and batteries.
They say it's important for the Iraqi police to understand that the US considers them a part of the law enforcement community, and they're success is critical to the military's mission there.
"The sooner they're up to speed, properly equipped, and properly trained, the sooner they'll be self sufficient and the sooner we'll be able to start withdrawing our troops," said Sawl.
This will be Burry's second trip. He says he knows Operation Soldier's efforts are working.
"The first couple of weeks we left there...the greatest thing...the accomplishment that makes you feel well...six officers were shot in action and actually went home to their families because of our equipment," said Burry.
And this is why when we succeed in Iraq and Afghanistan, and ultimately in the War on Terrorism, it will truly be America's Victory because many Americans still do not just sit around and bite ankles, they become constructive and pitch in to make America successful.
From Spirit of America to Soldiers Angels to the Minuteman Project, to entrepreneurs and bloggers, it's still a Government of the people and by the people.
So the next time you see people who tell you the President is mismanaging the War ask them: So what are doing doing to help make it turn out right?
Other than griping.
