So Kerry has come out in support of the Bush Doctrine:
Democratic candidate John Kerry said in Washington on Friday he would be willing to launch a preemptive strike against terrorists if he had adequate intelligence of a threat.
The problem is, of course, how much will be enough intelligence for the "nuanced" Sen Kerry? Given that intelligence is a game of "best guesses" based on the information you can gather, and given that there will, in the future, be more second guessing of the intelligence community, what will adequate mean for the Senator who distrusts the intelligence community.
How do we know he will not waver in his resolve, waiting for perfect intelligence.
I know it doesn't get much press, but our intelligence community underestimated Iraq's progress towards nuclear capability before the Gulf war, and it underestimated Iran's progress towards that same end. Intelliegence is not a science, there are no "slam dunk" conclusions.
How will a President Kerry respond to such "fuzzy" threat assessments?
One thing is for sure, no anti-war proponent worth his or her salt could possibly vote for Sen Kerry.
God knows who he'll pre-empt.
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand,
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh.
But when the taxman come to the door,
Lord, the house look a like a rummage sale, yes,It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no senator's son.
It ain't me, it ain't me,
I ain't no fortunate one, no.-CCR
