Soldiers Help Baghdad Food Production
BAGHDAD, Iraq - The 1st Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 5th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division presented farmers in the Al Rashid region here with four brand new tractors June 9 and 10.The donation was part of a plan to help farmers to produce more crops at a lower cost than before. The plan is for the local Neighborhood Advisory Council to rent the tractors to farmers for a third of what they now pay to rental contractors. The proceeds the NAC collects are not for profit, and will pay for equipment operating costs.
"Right now the council can help the farmers," Hussein Abdullah Hami Ajubora, chairman for the NAC, said through an interpreter. "We want to help the people, so they are satisfied."
