So the news is full of the abhorrent acts perpetrated by a few soldiers in Iraq. The Arab news is especially rabid, continuously broadcasting images of the atrocities kindly provided by CBS.
But where were the Arab news outlets when Saddam was torturing his countrymen and women? When he was gassing the Kurds. Mass murdering the Shias. Raping women.
Where was CBS?
Has Al-Arabiya and Al-Jazeera broadcast the images of Saddams torture chambers on continuous loop for the Middle East to see?
The main difference, of course, is that these images of soldiers torturing Iraqis horrify us. And as a result, the soldiers involved will be charged with crimes and thrown in jail. It is quite likely their commanding officer will also be charged.
Was Saddam charged, horrified, or even called to account for his crimes by the Arab media?
No, it took a US invasion to bring him to justice.
