On October 3, 1993, an operation by US Army Rangers and Special Operations went wrong. The result was 18 American soldiers dead and 73 wounded. The body of Special Operator Gary Gordon was dragged through the streets of Mogadishu.
Many can, and do argue, that the root cause of this debacle was the decision that Secretary of Defense Les Aspin made to deny Task Force Ranger the Bradley Fighting Vehicles and Abrams Tanks they had requested.
Did any of the Democrats call for the resignation of a Secretary of Defense whose decision directly resulted in the death of American soldiers?
No.
Yet to day we hear Rep. Charles Rangle and Nancy Pelosi calling for Rumsfeld to resign simply for not telling the President that some photos were about to be released.
Oh wait. No that's not right. They in fact have made up accusations against the Defense Secretary and want him to resign over these made-up charges.
Take this for example:
Said Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California, "Mr. Rumsfeld has been engaged in a coverup from the start on this issue and continues to be so."
This is a lie. Shouldn't the highest ranking Democrat in the House be held accountable for telling bald-faced lies?
Nancy Pelosi should resign.
And this:
Rep. Charles Rangel of New York joined the chorus of Democrats calling for Rumsfeld to step down or for Bush to fire him. If neither happens, Rangel said, Congress should impeach the defense secretary "for withholding from the president, Congress and the American people information on the abuses at the Iraqi prison."
Which is a lie. Charles Rangel should now resign for keeping the truth from the American people.
"They want to win the White House more than they want to win the war and our enemies know it. I am not questioning their patriotism. Don't let them play that little game again. I am questioning their judgment and their fitness to lead," said House Majority Leader Tom DeLay on Thursday.
Yes, their behavior is treasonous. They should all resign.
