A number of newsources (here and here) are quoting a Washington Post story (which I can not find online) reporting that Ahmed Chalabi will be dropped from having a part in the new Iraqi Government.
According to legend, Chalabi has been championed by the Pentagon and while the State Department has been opposed to him.
Many have said that he is not trusted by Iraqi's, having spent so much time in the West prior to the Iraq war. And the BBCs profile of him is not flattering
A seasoned lobbyist in London and Washington, who studied mathematics at Chicago University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mr Chalabi is often described as a controversial figure, charismatic and determined but crafty and cunning at the same time.Mr Chalabi has been accused by some opposition figures of using the INC to further his own ambitions.
though the BBC is not the only ones critical of him.
And it was Chalabi's group, the Iraqi National Congress, that provided much of the pre-war WMD intelliegence defectors whose veracity has since been questioned.
From what I know, my impression is that (assuming the reports are true) it's a good thing this guy will not have a leading role in Iraqi politics as the result of US fiat. If he's really a guy who can do something, let him work his way up through the political ranks by gaining a constituency.
Having people in the new government that are Iraqi and are respected by the Iraqi people, we have a much better chance of that government, and the subsequent elections, be accepted by the people there.
Chalabi will have his chance when Iraqis vote at the polls.
