Mr. Lebanon, Rafik Hariri, was killed in a car bomb blast in Lebanon four months after he resigned from the office of Prime Minister, a move which was a protest against Syrian occupation of his country. The US has drafted a UN resolution that calls for a large security force to protect people in the Darfur region in Sudan. The resolution proposes 10,000 troops to go to the country, as well as a travel ban and freeze on assets of any individuals responsible for violating the cease-fire agreement in the Darfur region. The new resolution would also expand the arms embargo to include the government of Sudan in Darfur; any government movement of weapons would have to be approved by the Security Council. Regardless of whether or not Sudan would go along with any of this, it is unlikely Russia and China would let it pass the Security Council.
