What's it all about, Kerry? Is it just for the moment we live?
Senator Kerry has decided that he will directly accuse the President of planning to institute a draft after months of being coy about the subject; preferring in the past to let surrogates and anonymous emails to do the heavy lifting.
In his frontal assault
Sen. John F. Kerry warned yesterday that President Bush may revive the draft to replenish troops in Iraq - a charge Republicans called ``fear mongering'' as a new poll shows military families don't trust Kerry.
According to Kerry, the President will require more troops to fight the war on terror and will need to institute a draft to get them. This is regardless of the fact that no one in the administration thinks its a good idea.
But if needing more troops is the rational that Kerry believes will necessarily drive the President to this action, I seem to remember that Kerry himself has promised to raise the number of troops if he was elected. Indeed we find that in the first debate Kerry said:
...in my plan, I add two active duty divisions to the United States Army, not for Iraq, but for our general demands across the globe.
Why is it that the only way President Bush can increase troop levels is through a draft but Kerry can do it without a draft.
Perhaps the good Senator believes that his charisma and charm will make people drop what they are doing and join the ranks of the military. You know, that same charisma that will get France, Germany and Russia to contribute troops to die in the wrong war in Iraq.
The very same charisma and charm that will turn the coalition of the "bribed and coercied" into a band of brothers against islamo-fascists.
And the same charism and charm that will turn the Prime Minister of Iraq from a "puppet" of the Bush administration into a French-speaking, UN loving, Friend of Kerry.
It seems to me, that the Kerry campaign is desperate and it's beginning to show in a myriad of ways that is not apparant if you only get your information from "Old Media" aka the Axis of Bias
The fact is, it is Democrats that have shown a proclivity to further the draft, not Republicans.
And given that most Republicans don't like Kerry one bit, the only people the Seantor's charm and chrisma will work on is Democrats. I wonder if that means that all of a sudden, Democrats will start deciding that serving in the US Military and actually putting their lives on the line to defend America will become popular, something that is not the case now, according to a recent poll
The survey found that 69 percent had a "favorable" view of Bush, while 29 percent professed a favorable view of Kerry....
The military sample was far more likely to be Republican (43 percent) than Democratic (19 percent) or independent (28 percent).(emphasis mine)
As the election careens towards a conclusion I think we will see the increasingly deperate Kerry campaign become more and more wild and irreponsible; trading short term goals for long term ones. If for some reason the Senator wins, he will have to spend his first four years repairing the damage caused by his campaign.
He will need to repair the alliances he's damaged
Repair relations with Iraq
Repair damage done to our political institutions
And when voters go to the booth on November 2nd, they should have asked the Sentaor, What's it all about, Senator Kerry, is it just for the moment we live?
The answer, of course, is no...
and it is dangerous to elect a President who thinks it is.
what's it all about alfie
is it just for te moment we live
what's it all about when you sort it out alfie
are we meant to take more than we give
or are we meant to be kind
and if only fools are kind alfie
then i guess it's wise to be cruel
and if life belongs only to the strong alfie
what will you lend on an old golden rule
as sure as i believe there's something much more
something even non-believers can believe in
i believe in love alfie
without true love we just exist alfie
until you find the love you've missed you're nothing alfie
when you walk let your heart lead the way
and you'll find love any day alfie alfie-Burt Bacharach/Hal David
